John Lennon sang, “Give peace a chance.” St. Joseph Flyers’ coach Dan Blair says, “Give your teammates a chance.”

The Flyers did just that with three assists as they blanked the Chesapeake Panthers 5-0 Monday in a soccer game.

“Goals are always exciting to watch, but it’s the teammates that deliver the scoring chances that really make the difference,” said Blair.

Delivering those chances were Sidney Payne with two assists and Joseph Payton with one for the Flyers.

Eli Lewis scored three goals for the Flyers while Nick Roach and Payton had one each. Goalkeeper Justin Mahlmeister posted his second shutout of the season.

“Again the defense played an excellent game. The midfield did a stellar job the whole game,” said Blair.

St. Joseph (5-0-1) visits Point Pleasant, W.Va., at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Greenup County tied the game at the 60-minute mark in the second half before the Pointers scored 10 minutes later on Lien’s goal thanks to an assist by Brady Sloan.

The Pointers’ Brady Rickard had nine saves and Lein three.

South Point (2-3-3) hosts Chesapeake at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
