Big plays produced big results.

The Portsmouth West Senators used five touchdown runs of 55 or more yards to beat the Chesapeake Panthers 49-20 Friday in a non-league game.

Mark Murphy led a ground game for West that racked up 490 yards as he carried just nine times for 166 yards and three touchdowns.

Dale Swords had a big game as well with 148 yards only five carries and two touchdowns.

The Senators (5-0) amassed 511 total yards.

Chesapeake (2-3) was limited to 81 yards rushing but had 127 passing. Aaron Donahoe was 6-of-11 for 53 yards and also ran for a score while backup quarterback Austin McMaster hit 2-of-3 for 74 yards including a 62-yard scoring strike to Brandon Noble and a 12-yard TD pass to Jon Pinson.

Swords started the game with a 70-yard scoring run and came right back with a 60-yard scamper. Trevon Pendleton ran 55 yards for a touchdown as West built a 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Murphy’s 6-yard scoring run pushed the lead to 28-0 before Donahoe ran 1-yard just before the half and it was 28-6.

West led 37-0 after three quarters and Pendleton had a 48-yard touchdown run to start the fourth quarter and it was 43-6.
