Authorities in three states are looking for a man who is believed to have stolen two cars, tried to steal another, robbed a gas station and tried to rob a second one in the space of a few hours Saturday afternoon.

Kenova Police Department dispatcher Jim Jackson said the string of incidents apparently began when the suspect stole a car in Lawrence County, Ky., and drove it into Wayne County, W.Va.

“Two ladies picked him up and gave him a ride into town and he tried to carjack them. He said if they didn’t give him the car he’d kill them and the lady said ‘you’re going to have to kill me’ and they took off and he walked across the street and took another car with the man sitting in it,” Jackson said.

The elderly man in the stolen 2002 Chevrolet Ventura was not hurt. That incident happened at approximately 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dollar General store on 14th Street. Shortly after that, Ashland police said the suspect drove to their city, went into a BP station on Greenup Avenue and demanded money.

“He had his left hand behind him like he had a gun,” Ashland Police Capt. Todd Kelley said.

The suspect then fled into Lawrence County, where he attempted to hold up the Get It And Git gasoline station on State Route 93 in Upper Township.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian in his mid 30s to early 40s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and a stubbly goatee. Anyone with information on the Lawrence County attempted hold up may call (740) 532-3525.
