COLUMBUS - State Senator Tom Niehaus (R-New Richmond) announced today that as part of the state’s capital budget bill, House Bill 562, more than $1.3 million has been slated for several Lawrence County community development projects.

“I am pleased to see these dollars set aside for projects in Lawrence County,” Niehaus said.

“The capital budget and the projects receiving funding are a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local and state officials work together for the good of our local communities.”

Projects receiving funding in Lawrence County include several educational facility improvements. Specifically, HB 562 provides nearly $800,000 for renovations and improvements at Ohio University’s Southern Campus.

Included among these projects are basic renovations, campus entry and grounds improvements, renovation planning for the academic building laboratory and classroom, as well as upgrades to the Proctorville Center.

Senator Niehaus also noted that the Lawrence County Youth Facility is slated to receive $500,000 to assist in the relocation of the facility.

The capital budget funds the state’s “bricks and mortar” needs including building and renovation projects throughout the state, through the issuance of bonds.

The funding for these projects was made possible through the collaborative efforts Senator Niehaus and his colleagues in the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives.
