Wayne rolls past Dragons

CHESAPEAKE — Too much too soon.

The Chesapeake Panthers fell behind 9-1 after two innings and couldn’t recover as they lost 15-9 to the Spring Valley Timberwolves Tuesday.

Wayne went up 2-0 but the Panthers got a run back when Clinton Baise singled, stole second, move up on a hit by Matt Angle, and Kyle Rase put down a squeeze bunt.

The Pioneers scored seven runs in the second inning to lead 9-1 before the Panthers got a run in the third when Angle singled and Byron Huff doubled.

Each team scored twice in the fourth.

Jimmy Conrad singled, Baise walked, and Angle had an RBI single. Huff was safe on an error as a run scored.

Wayne pushed the lead to 15-4 in the fifth and then Chesapeake got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth.

Gabriel Freyre walked and Harris, Conrad and Baise all singled for the two runs.

The Panthers finished the scoring with three in the sixth.

Huff walked, Rase singled, and Travis Zimmerman walked to load the bases. Freyre hit into a fielder’s choice for a run and then Harris tripled to empty the bases.

The Panthers left the bases loaded.

Chesapeake (3-7) hosts Fairland Wednesday.

Fairland 1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Spring Valley Timberwolves used three home runs to beat the Fairland Dragons 11-1 Tuesday in a five-inning non-league game.

Jacob Hunter hit two home runs and Cody Smith homered and doubled for Spring Valley.

Tyler Thackston and Ethan Long each went 1-2 as Fairland managed just two hits.

Fairland (8-3) travels to Chesapeake Wednesday.
