High school students have a chance to brag about their teacher, and maybe win a pizza party in the process.

Ohio University Southern is sponsoring a “Teachers Making Their Mark” contest where students can make a two-minute video about their favorite teacher and upload it to makeyourmarkous.com by April 29.

The video contest is for high school students from Lawrence, Scioto, and Gallia counties in Ohio, Cabell, Wayne and Putnam counties in West Virginia and Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Lewis, Elliot, Fleming, Lawrence, Rowan and Mason counties in Kentucky.

Robert Pleasant, interim director of Student Services and coordinator of Diversity and Multiculturalism, said that OUS wanted to have a community project that went along with the OUS’s theme of “Making a Mark.”

“We wanted something positive, something where students could point out someone who has made an impact on their lives,” Pleasant said.

Mike Donley, the OUS Electronic Media producer, said the contest is way to show there are good things happening in the area schools.

“We wanted to get the students involved and they are always doing creative things with technology,” he said referring to video sites like YouTube. “This gives them a platform to say ‘This is a good teacher, we learned a lot in their class.’”

To be eligible, the nominated person must be a full-time teacher in grades kindergarten through 12th grade for this school year.

Students can begin submitting their videos on Monday. Voting begins on May 12 and ends on May 24.

The winning video will be announced on May 27 on makeyourmarkous.com.

The student who makes the most popular video will get a pizza party for them and 15 of their friends. The favorite teacher gets dinner for two and other gifts.

For instructions on uploading the video, contact Josh Ramsey or Mike Donley at (740) 533-4581. For more information and to register for the contest, go to www.makeyourmarkous.com/contests.
