PROCTORVILLE — A fast start was all the Fairland Dragons needed.

Fairland scored all seven of its runs in the first two innings and beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 7-4 Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.

“It was nice to get that four runs in the first inning. We kind of relaxed and just played good baseball after that,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

The Blue Devils got a run in the third when J.P. Finnicum singled and Andy Denbow doubled.

Gallipolis got within 7-3 in the fourth inning with a pair of runs.

Nick Stevens singled, Austin Roush walked, and Finnicum was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A ground out scored one run and an error got home the second run.

The Blue Devils got a run in the seventh when Cody Noble was hit by a pitch, moved up on a base hit and came home on a ground out.

Burcham went four innings to get the win. He struck out five and walked three.
