WILLOW WOOD — When the Symmes Valley Vikings got in foul trouble, it proved to be real trouble for the Green Bobcats.

Hunter Boggs, Dustin Wilson, and Jesse Graybeal came off the bench to provide a defensive spark as the Vikings got past the Green Bobcats 67-59 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference I game.

“We got in a little foul trouble in the second quarter and those three coming off the bench stepped it up on defense and got us going,” said Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter.

Green got off to a fast start as Matt Clarke scored 15 points in the first quarter for a 20-11 lead.

But Tyler Smith scored eight points in the second quarter and the defense held Green to nine points as the Vikings rallied to take a 32-29 halftime lead.

“We stepped it up on Clarke and Smith may a big play and we got some other big shots and that got us going. We worked the ball around well tonight,” said Carpenter.

Green coach David Hopper said his team continued its second quarter struggles.

“The second quarter did us in again,” said Green coach David Hopper. “We shot better, but we still missed a lot of bunnies (layups).”

Matt Tibbs had seven points in the third quarter as the lead went to 45-40.

Chris Capper scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and the Vikings were 10-of-11 from the foul line over the final two and one-half minutes to seal the win including Smith who was 6-of-7.

Clarke hit three triples as he scored nine points in the quarter.

Capper scored 21 points to match his career-high to go with 11 rebounds.

Smith had 13 points and five assists, Jacob Johnson 11 points, five assists and five steals, Matt Tibbs 13 points, and Kris Tibbs grabbed 10 rebounds.

Clarke led all scorers with 28 points including five 3-pointers. Josh Tyler had 11 rebounds, Randy Ratcliff eight rebounds, and Pat Pierce pulled down seven.

The Vikings are tied for first place in the SOC at 5-1 and 7-3 overall. Green falls to 3-7 and 2-4.
