The first visit went so well, more help is on the way.

The non-profit agency Help for Animals will return to Pic 'N' Save in Ironton Sept. 13 and 22 to offer spaying and neutering for low cost.

During the last visit, the Lawrence County Humane Society paid for 13 cats and 12 dogs. Though pet owners will have to foot the bill themselves this time, volunteer Alberta Wise is confident people will take advantage of the service.

"Everything went great and many people asked questions and want to schedule at the low-cost rates," she said. "We hope this will help reduce unwanted animals, especially cats since we receive many calls wanting to place them."

Any one interested in having this service may call (800) 953-7297 Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Surgery includes a free rabies vaccination and a small fee for other vaccinations.

Only 25 animals can be scheduled due to cage space on the mobile unit.

The Lawrence County Humane Society has received calls to see if the group will pay for this service again, Wise said, adding that if they receive memorial donations then the group will help low income families.

Cost for the service is cat neutering $25, cat spay $40, dog neuter $45, dog spay (under 30 lbs) $50.
