WEST PORTSMOUTH - When one cools off, the others heat up a little more.

After a sizzling two weeks of golf, Seth Christian cooled off somewhat with a round of 40 Tuesday.

But picking up the pace were the rest of the Fighting Tigers as Ironton beat the Portsmouth West Senators 154 to 160.

Dennis Gagai took medalist honors with a 1-over par 36 for Ironton. Nathan Kerns and Jay Rudmann each carded a 39 while Gavin Harbolt joined Christian with a 40. Seth Haynes shot a 45.

"Dennis has been right there all the time. He's been pretty consistent all season," Ironton coach Jeff Kerns said. "Nathan has played well. Sometimes you forget he's just a freshman. And it was good to see Jay back around 39.

"Seth isn't going to put up those kind of numbers every night. It's tough to maintain. So it's good to get contributions from others. We're still able to win even without our best efforts."

Ironton improved to 44-2 on the season with the win over the Senators on their home course.

The Fighting Tigers play Portsmouth at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club.
