Organizers of the weekend's Rally on the River could all agree on one thing: The event was a huge success.

"Everybody was really pleased with the weekend, I think we did what our main intent was, and that was to bring people in to Ironton and let them spend money here," Friends of Ironton committee member Jodi Rowe-Collins said. "I think the weekend was a success, we got off with no major problems."

The Friends estimate that between 10,000 and 12,000 attended the event. That's about double the attendance for the first Rally on the River event.

The rally was also a success of cooperation. Collins said that more than 100 volunteers gave freely of their time to help make the rally a success. Organizers also received some help from the El Hasa Shrine.

To hear Cheryl Bolender, Friends of Ironton committee member, tell it, the event could not have gone more smoothly.

"It went very well, we had a great turnout. The bike show was a big success," Bolender said. "We had no mishaps at all and everybody had a great time."

The Ironton Police Department agreed, with a dispatcher saying that there were not any problems created by the Rally.

Rick McKnight, co-founder of the Friends of Ironton, thought that the Rally went great, but he admits that a lot of hard work went into it.

"I don't even want to talk about it," McKnight said with a tired laugh. "I was there from 8 in the morning to 11, 11:30 every night."

Although he was there for the duration, there were a few moments from the Rally that he particularly enjoyed.

"I liked the motorcycle jumping, I liked the bands," McKnight said. "I liked the Parade of Heroes, I thought that was unbelievable, and the Poker Run, when 700 bikes leave town, that's unbelievable."

Those that missed any of these highlights should get a second chance, as McKnight said he believes there will be a Rally on the River 3.
