INDIANAPOLIS - There's no quit in the Fairland Junior League All-Stars.

After losing 19-4 to Iowa on Sunday, Fairland bounced back and beat Minnesota 8-1 Tuesday in the Junior League Regional All-Star Tournament.

"As bad as we played the other day, we played that well today," Fairland coach John Bond said. "Our kids didn't hang their heads and they came back and won. They didn't push the panic button."

Fairland plays Illinois at 3 p.m. today.

Ethan Long dominated Minnesota with a one-hitter. Long struck out nine and walked three. The only run was unearned.

"Ethan Long was on his game. He's a dominating pitcher when he's throwing like he's capable," Bond said. "He did it pitching, he made a good play on defense, and he hit the home run."

Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Bloomfield singled, stole second and rode home on a hit by Long.

"A big part of our game is being aggressive on the bases. We got behind and couldn't do that the other day," Bond said. "When Bloomfield started us off, our pitchers seem to be more relaxed when we have the lead."

Minnesota tied the game in the third inning on an infield hit, an error and a passed ball, but Fairland put the game away with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Adam Berry and Easterling doubled for the lead. Tyler Thackston put down a sacrifice bunt and Michael Lamb had an RBI single.

Zach Matasich singled, Bloomfield walked and Long cranked a three-run homer.

Fairland finished with 11 hits as Long went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Bloomfield and Lamb were 2-3.

"We hit the ball well today," Bond said.

Fairland opened pool play with a win over Kansas before losing to Iowa.
