The question is on the tongues of every high school football fan: When does the season officially begin?

Physical fitness may begin at any time, but actual coaching can not start until Friday, Aug. 5, for schools with classes beginning before Aug. 19. Coaching starts Monday, Aug. 8, for all other schools.

The first scrimmage is allowed on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Rules meeting

Football coaches and officials will come together with no one complaining or defending a penalty or call.

Each school's coaching staff must send a representative to an annual rules interpretation meeting. All officials are required to attend the meeting.

Locally, coaches and officials may attend a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11, at Ohio University Southern. If anyone wants to attend an early session on Wednesday, July 27, they may do so at Lucasville Valley High School. Other meetings will be Aug. 1 at Athens High School and Aug. 18 at Jackson High School. All meetings begin at 7:15 p.m.

Ohio High magazine

The 2005 Ohio High magazine includes team preview pages on every team in the state, profiles on the 'Tremendous 26' players, a 2004 state championship recap, 20 questions with Colerain head coach Kerry Coombs who guided the team to a 15-0 record, a state title and national ranking, plus some great recruiting information for athletes and parents.

The magazine cover reads "The Year of the Quarterback" and has a picture featuring four of the top triggermen in the state.

There are more than 720 pages worth of Ohio high school football information.

Ohio High magazine currently comes out five times a year. The fall, winter and spring issues are 80 pages each, with two midterm issues at 48 pages each. A one-year subscription to Ohio High is $29.95.

Cavalier auditions

Auditions for two high-profile positions on the Cavaliers in-game presentation staff will be Wednesday, July 20, at St. Edward High School in Lakewood.

The team is looking for a public address announcer whose duties will include announcing starting line-ups, all game action, public address announcements, contests and more.

The second position is that of In-Arena Host to emcee the many on-court and in-arena activities that take place during Cavaliers games.

The public address announcer will be the main voice of the Cleveland Cavaliers while in the arena.

The announcer and in-arena host will work closely together and be a key part of the Cavaliers exciting game night experience.
