Parings set for state junior league tourney

The lineup is set, so get the batting lineup ready, too.

The state Junior League All-Star tournament got underway at 9 a.m. today as District 11 champion Fairland played Athens. The second game at 11:30 a.m. had New Miami playing Indian Valley.

The rest of Friday's schedule has Boardman facing Eaton at 2 p.m. followed by Elyria East and Maumee at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the final two opening round games have Bucyrus going against the winner of the Fairland and Athens game. At 2:30 p.m., Ashtabula takes on the winner of the New Miami and Indian Valley game.

The loser's bracket begins at 5 p.m. as the loser of the Boardman and Eaton game goes against the loser of the New Miami and Indian Valley game.

At 7:30 p.m., the loser of the Fairland and Athens game tries to stay alive against the loser of the Elyria East and Maumee game.

The tournament continues Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

The annual state tournament banquet will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the Ironton Elks Lodge. Players and coaches will eat for free. The public is welcomed but dinner will be $5 per person. A hamburger/hot dog type meal will be served.

State tournament T-shirts will be sold for $10 at the banquet and the field. Souvenir programs will be available for $2.

Opening ceremonies will be

Saturday when all teams will be present. Chris Laber will sing the national anthem, all teams will be introduced and Ironton Mayor John Elam will present teams with a proclamation approved by the mayor and city council.
