Price, 49, and Kimberly A. Price, 40.

"At 8:20 a.m. we received a call of shots being fired and a man and a woman in a physical altercation in the 300 block of 21st Street," Petrella said. "When officers arrived they found two people on the ground, both with gunshot wounds."

Donald Price suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Melinda Price suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, inflicted with a .45 pistol. Both bodies are being taken to the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for autopsies.

Petrella said Kimberly Price works in the area where the shooting occurred. Several people have told authorities they saw parts of the incident but no one saw the entire altercation from beginning to its deadly conclusion.

"We have a pretty good idea (who shot who) but we are reserving comment on it at this time, since it is still under investigation," Petrella said.

Lawrence County, Ky., Circuit Court Clerk Martha Kiser said Kimberly Price had filed for divorce in December 2004. A final hearing in the matter was scheduled for next month.

Petrella said he was not aware of any previous incidents involving the couple in Ashland.

Neither the Louisa, Ky., police nor the Lawrence County, Ky., Sheriff's Office had record of any other incidents involving the couple that required law enforcement attention.
