Medcalf falls in state tennis tournament

COLUMBUS - Lovell Medcalf said the best talent in the state would be featured at the Division II state tennis tournament.

He was right.

Medcalf lost in straight sets to Kyle Bowers of Norwalk, 6-2, 6-0, thus eliminating Medcalf from the tournament Friday held at the Stickney Tennis Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Medcalf finished the season 22-3 this year.

In the district tournament, Medcalf used a strong serve and a swift backhand to beat Chad Gray of Beaver Local 6-0, 6-1, then used three sets to knock off John Messick of Teays Valley 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.

In the semifinals, Medcalf led in every set but still lost to Ryan Dodd of New Albany 4-6, 1-6.
