WILLOW WOOD - Dinner and a show added up to a trip to Hawaii for the Symmes Valley girls volleyball team.

On Saturday, the Symmes Valley High School drama department presented the musical comedy "Bye, Bye Birdie." A special Polynesian dinner was served by the volleyball team to those who attended the production. The team did this as a part of their continued efforts to raise money for a trip to Hawaii, and their efforts have paid off.

"The girls have worked all year for the money," said coach Becky Bowling. "The dinner theatre should meet our goal of $14,000."

The team has been invited to attend a volleyball tournament in Kauai, Hawaii. They will leave for the 4-day tournament on June 16.

The team has been working for 8 months to raise the money needed for the trip.

Many people who attended the dinner theatre said they really enjoyed it. The gym was decorated, the lights were off and diners ate by candlelight as they watched the play and were served a full-course meal.

"I thought they did a really good job and the dinner was excellent," said Debbie Saunders.

"They've worked hard all year to raise money. I think they'll have a good time."

Coach Bowling said that they are looking forward to the trip and she would really like to thank the parents, the volleyball players, and everyone who contributed towards making the trip possible.

"If it wasn't for our parents and volleyball girls, we wouldn't have been able to pull it off," she said.
