SOUTH POINT - Mandi Estep likes to do the opposite of her teammates.

While the Redwomen were getting seven hits, Estep was working on a one-hitter as Rock Hill squeezed past the South Point Lady Pointers 1-0 Thursday to win the Division III sectional tournament.

Estep struck out six and did not walk a batter in going the distance. Summer Malone singled with one out in the seventh inning to spoil the no-hit bid.

Alison Queen took the tough loss in relief as she struck out two and did not walk anyone.

"We hit the ball well. Everyone made contact. We pounded the ball pretty good," said Redwomen coach Mary Harper. "Mandi pitched a great game and we made good plays on defense and they did, too."

The Redwomen got the only run of the game in the fifth inning.

Heather Gore reached on an error with one out. Gore stole second and went to third base when

Kayla Kelley singled.

However, Kelley took off for second base in a stolen base attempt and the throw hit her in the helmet allowing Gore to race home with the only run.

"It was a very good win. South Point has a very good team," coach Harper said.

Shelli Harper went 2-for-2 to lead the Rock Hill offense.Rock Hill, 19-5, plays next Thursday in the district tournament.
