WILLOW WOOD - They matched each other pitch for pitch. Then, somebody blinked.

Symmes Valley's Lori Harmon and South Point's Ashley Patrick locked up in a scoreless pitching duel for five and a half innings. But the Lady Vikings managed a run in the sixth and nipped South Point 1-0 Thursday.

Harmon, who pitched a perfect game in the Symmes Valley opener, allowed just one hit, struck out seven and walked one to get the win.

Patrick hurled a 3-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk.

"Both pitchers had an excellent outing," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said. "We kept telling our kids every inning that the team that got the break and scores a run is going to win the game."

Symmes Valley got that one run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With one out, Erin Martin singled to left field,

Emily Bowling walked, and Harmon hit a line drive off Patrick's arm that scored Martin.

The Lady Vikings go to East on Monday and visit Green Tuesday. South Point is now 1-1.
