AID - It was a "Weekend at the Valley."

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings brought in four top softball teams and came away with a 2-2 record in a series of round robin games this weekend including a split of two games Saturday, a 3-2 win over Huntington, W.Va., and an 8-1 loss to Gahanna.

"I was very satisfied with the girls for the whole weekend. We hit the ball well the whole weekend, played good defense and got good pitching," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.

In the first game, Huntington got all three of its hits to go up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but Symmes Valley got a run back in the bottom of the frame.

Emily Bowling and Lori Harmon singled, Megan Coomes walked and Jodi Black hit into a fielder's choice as the run scored.

The Lady Vikings got three runs in the third inning to take lead.

Coomes singled, Rebecca Capper had a sacrifice bunt and Black had an RBI single. Kristen Crabtree and Natasha Pointer both singled for the other runs.

Harmon got the win as she struck out nine and didn't walk a batter.

The second game was all Gahanna which had 10 hits.

"They just hit the ball. It didn't matter where we pitched it, they just hit it," Estep said.

The Lady Vikings only run came in the fifth inning when Crabtree reached on an error and Meghan Hawthorne and Martin singled.

Symmes Valley, 8-2, hosts Portsmouth Clay Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

In Saturday's other games, Gahanna edged Wheelersburg 3-2 in nine innings and Wheelersburg beat Huntington 8-1.
