SOUTH POINT - It took a special rule to end a special game.

The South Point Lady Pointers and Chesapeake Lady Panthers hooked up in a thrilling Ohio Valley Conference softball game Wednesday with South Point winning 3-2 in 11 innings.

The international tiebreaker is used if a game is tied at the end of nine innings. According to the rule, a runner is placed at second base and then the team hits.

Chesapeake had a runner at second to start the 11th inning. A sacrifice put the runner on third base, but the next batter hit a slow roller that Pointers pitcher Marie Viglianco fielded, checked the runner and threw out the batter.

The next batter hit a fly ball to right field that took a diving catch by Shannon Warnick to end the threat.

South Point had Ashley Patrick placed at second base to start the bottom of the inning. Patrick moved to third base on a passed ball and a few pitches later scored on another passed ball.

Viglianco got the win in relief of Allison Queen. The duo combined for 13 strikeouts. Candace Dickerson went the distance and suffered the loss for Chesapeake.

South Point is now 10-4 overall and 7-1 in the OVC. Chesapeake falls to 10-6 and 4-4.
