PROCTORVILLE - The challengers haven't been much of a challenge.

Chesapeake and South Point were supposed to be the top threats to unseat defending champion Fairland, but the Dragons have beaten both teams in mercy rule fashion.

After topping Chesapeake 13-1 on Wednesday, the Dragons routed South Point 13-3 Friday and remained unbeaten at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the OVC.

"It was another situation where I think it just happened. We're getting key plays and key hits at the right time. South Point is better than they played tonight," Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

Fairland used the six-hit pitching of Cory McKnight and home runs by Adam Fuller and Michael Hill to prove their dominance.

McKnight struck out only three but walked just two.

"Cory is a battler. He wasn't especially sharp, but he does what he has to do to get people out," Snyder said. "When he doesn't walk people and we play defense, he's an effective pitcher."

South Point got a run in the top of the first inning when Corey Smoot hit a solo home run. Hill hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

In the second inning, Rocky Roe walked, stole second, took third on a ground out and scored when Chris Brown reached on an error to put the Pointers back on top at 2-1.

The Pointers went up 3-1 in the top of the third inning when Anthony Ross singled and Justin Fox doubled.

But the Dragons scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good at 6-3.

Nolan Love was safe on an error, Nick Zundel singled and Todd Maynard had an RBI single. Hill was walked intentionally and Josh Moore hit into a force play as a run scored.

McKnight helped his own cause with a two-run single, Fuller walked to load the based and Chris Barnett had a run-scoring double.

Fuller homered in a 7-run fourth inning that gave the Dragons the mercy rule win.
