Gunman robs South Point bank

SOUTH POINT - Someone made a withdrawal at the Lawrence Federal Savings Bank Thursday morning but he didn't use his checkbook.

A lone gunman walked into the Solida Road bank in South Point at approximately 10:30 a.m. and walked away with an undetermined amount of money.

Lawrence County Sheriff's Office detective Shane Hanshaw said the suspect showed a handgun and had personnel empty the cash drawers.

"He fled in a pick-up truck but we later found it abandoned nearby," Hanshaw said adding that the blue and white Chevy truck had recently been reported stolen. "We would think he had an accomplice, a driver, but there was no one with him inside the bank."

Hanshaw said the man wore sunglasses, a dark, hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask. He is 5'7" to 5'8" and weighs 160 to 180 pounds.

The sheriff's office is getting assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information can can call (740) 532-3525.

The bank was also robbed in April 2001.
