JACKSON - It was all about control.

The Fairland Dragons had the early control of the game's tempo, but the Belpre Golden Eagles assumed control in the second quarter and went on to post a 67-38 win in the Division III sectional tournament Wednesday.

Fairland, a heavy underdog, kept the pace slow in the first quarter and the deliberate style worked as the two teams tied 8-8 at the end of the quarter.

But Belpre was able to speed up the pace in the second quarter by outscoring the Dragons 21-8 to build a 29-16 halftime lead.

The lead was 43-28 after three quarters, and Belpre put the game away in the fourth quarter by scoring 25 points and holding the Dragons to just 10.

Todd Maynard scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the Dragons who finished the season 3-18. Rich Staggs added 9 points.

Belpre was led by Travis Morris with a game-high 22 points and five assists. Dustin Adams added 11 points and Brandon Smith had 9 rebounds.

A key factor in deciding the game was Belpre's shooting. The Golden Eagles were 26 of 47 from the field for 53.3 percent.

Belpre (14-7) will play Federal Hocking at 3 p.m. Saturday.
