The Passion story will be presented in a readers-play format at this year’s Good Friday community service.

The service, sponsored by the Ironton Area Ministerial Association, will be at noon Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironton.

“Instead of having one person read the story, it is broken up with a narrator and various parts and will be read by the pastors,” the Rev. Jan Williams, pastor of First Presbyterian, said. “We have used this style for reading the Passion story. It makes it more dramatic and connects with the people better.

Participating in the dramatization will be the Rev. Wayne Young of First United Methodist, the Rev. David Ritchie of St. Paul Lutheran, Jeff Cremeans of the City Mission Church and Williams.

The homily will be given by the Rev. Sallie Schisler, vicar of Christ Episcopal Church. Schisler will weave her childhood recollections of marking the holy day with the message of Easter.

“Good Friday serves as the bridge between those last memories of Jesus with his friends and then he crosses into new territory where he completely surrenders to God’s will and new life,” Schisler said.

The service, expected to last an hour, is open to anyone in the community.

“It helps us share an experience that is central to the Christian faith,” Williams said.
