CHESAPEAKE — The same formula keeps working for the Rock Hill Redmen.

Drew Kidd pitched a five-hitter and the defense was flawless as the Redmen beat the Chesapeake Panthers 5-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.

Kidd struck out eight and walked to in going the distance. Brandon Noble pitched a four-hitter for Chesapeake as he struck out five and walked five.

“Pitching and defense carried us again,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral. “Drew Kidd threw well and we didn’t make an error.

“We struggled at the plate, but Jared Bruce came up with two key hits and Evan Morris had a key hit.”

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Rock Hill (11-3, 6-0) scored twice.

Jonah Cox and Austin Kidd walked and Bruce had a two-run double.

A run scored in the fifth when Johnathan Schob walked, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Morris.

Rock Hill made it 5-0 in the top of the seventh.

Cox walked, Austin Kidd had a sacrifice and Bruce doubled home the run. Bruce moved up on ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Chesapeake scored its runs in the bottom of the inning on singles by Bare and Walters, a walk and Curry’s two-run single.

But the Redmen turned a third-to-first double play and Kidd struck out the next batter to end the game.
