Gospel group to sing at First Baptist of Ironton

IRONTON — The gospel group The Palmetto State Quartet will be in concert at 7 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Ironton. A love offering will be taken.

The quartet has been a gospel music staple for decades and has had success over the years with such songs as “Don’t That Sound Like Heaven,” and “Knock Knock Knock.”

Driver killed in W.Va. car-school bus crash ID’ed

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Police have identified a driver who was killed when her car collided with a Cabell County school bus.

The Cabell County Sheriff’s Office says 42-year-old Teresa McComas of Branchland was trying to return to her lane after her car crossed the center line when the collision occurred Monday on State Route 10.

McComas’ 3-year-old daughter remains hospitalized at a Huntington hospital.

The school bus driver wasn’t injured. No students were on the bus.

Th investigation determined that McComas crossed the center line in the 5200 block of W. Va. 10 just before 8 a.m. She tried to return to her lane but collided with a Cabell County school bus that was traveling north toward Huntington.

 

Picnic with the Pops: sizzling sounds of summer

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Tickets for Picnic with the Pops 2012 – Sizzling Sounds of Summer are now on sale. This year’s POPs dates are June16, July 21 and Aug. 18.

The first POPS will be June 16 with the theme, “Your Hometown Orchestra Gets Countrified,” A little bit of country and a whole lot of down home fun. The second date is July 21 with the theme is “We’re Going GLEE” Just like the hit TV show Glee, expect it all. On Aug. 18 the HSO will present a “Symphony Sinatra” Frank and the whole Rat Pack will hit the riverfront.

Tables and tickets for Picnic with the Pops — 2012 are now on sale and may be purchased by going online at www.huntingtonsymphony.org or by simply calling 304-781-8343 or stopping by the HSO administration office at 763 Third Ave. Huntington. Keep an eye open for announcements of several special events connected to each POPS.
