More than a dozen musicians have signed up for the first-ever Ironton Opry, slated for 8 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Ro-Na Theater on South Third Street in Ironton.

The proceeds from the event will go to the restoration of the old theater.

Rick Phelps, one of the organizers for the event, said he is friends with some musicians who have played locally and who have agreed to help raise money for a good cause.

“I think everyone wants to see the theater up and running again,” Phelps said.

In addition to the altruism, the concert will allow musicians to play with each other for the public. One of the musicians taking part is Josh Click.

“I’ve known a lot of musicians who’ve played behind closed doors. This will give them a place to go and play,” Click said. “The goal is to raise money for the Ro-Na but also to invite musicians to come and showcase their talent. I’m honored just to be a part of something like this.”

Click said the musicians who have already signed up range in age from people in their 20s to people in their 40s and 50s, all with one thing in common: They love to play music.

Click said he would like to see the Ironton Opry continue and become a regular event and not just a one-night concert.

The cost of admission is $10 per person; there will be a cash bar.
