AID — The late Davey Jones once sang as a member of The Monkees, “This Just Doesn’t Seem To Be My Day.”

It proved to be a dirge for the Symmes Valley Vikings on Wednesday as they lost 3-1 to the Trimble Tomcats in the Division IV sectional tournament.

“We just didn’t play well,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “We ran ourselves out of scoring opportunities, we had mental errors and we didn’t hit the ball. It was just one of those days.”

J.D. Chesser was signing a happy tune for the Tomcats as he gave up six hits, struck out nine and walked three in getting the complete game win.

Cody Myers threw well in defeat for the Vikings. He also gave up six hits, struck out five and walked seven, two intentionally.

Trimble scored in the first inning when Austin Downs walked, stole second base and scored on a double by Chesser.

The lead went to 3-0 in the second inning as the Tomcats scored again.

John Vaido singled, went to second when the Vikings botched J.D. Shifflet’s sacrifice bunt attempt and both runners scored on single by Jacob Kish.

The Vikings finally dented the scoreboard in the sixth.

Tanner Mays singled, stole second base, went to third as the throwing went into centerfield and scored on Garrett Foster’s ground out.

Symmes Valley (12-10) left nine runners on base.

“We had runners in scoring position and we couldn’t get a key hit,” said Renfroe.

The Vikings plays at Sciotoville East on Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
