ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Some college football coaches want an NCAA rule change that would allow them to scrimmage against other schools during spring drills.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney wishes he could face another team, even with the scoreboard turned off, to create more excitement for college football in the spring and to gauge his players.

Michigan’s Brady Hoke would simply like to have another program on campus for a day or two of controlled drills — without fans or reporters.

Alabama coach Nick Saban and Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops would rather leave spring ball just the way it is and concentrate on their own players — and keep them healthy.

The concept is expected to be on the agenda when the American Football Coaches Association board meets in Arizona next month.
