Fairland trio join list of state qualifiers

THE PLAINS — The final entries have been made.

Tanner Mattie, Raine Wireman and Amber Pappas are the final qualifiers for the Division II state track meet after placing among the top four in Saturday’s second day of the regional meet held at Athens High School.

Papper ran a 47.60 to finish third in the 300-meter hurdles. Wireman ran a 1:56.56 and was third in the 800 while Mattie was also third as he ran a 10:04.51 in the 3200.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the state meet June 1-2 at Ohio State University.

On Thursday, the Dragons’ quartet of Raine Wireman, Ryan Stewart, Tanner Mattie and Logan Rowe ran an 8:16.17 time to place third.

Others placing on Saturday included Chesapeake’s Austin McMaster who was seventh in the high jump at 6-foot, Fairland’s Kenny Smith who was seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.24) and eighth in the 300 hurdles (43.01), and Shanan Ashton who was eighth in the 3200 (12:18.42).

The 4×800 relays begin at 1:30 and the 300 hurdle preliminaries at 2 p.m. on Friday. The 800 is at 2:25 and the 3200 at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday.
