Outdoor movie rescheduled

ASHLAND, Ky. — Rainy weather forced the rescheduling of the Pictures in the Park movie at Boyd County Public Library to this Friday.

“The Adventures of Tintin” will begin at dark, about 9 p.m., in the Library Commons area adjacent to the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

The Library’s Pictures in the Park series takes place the first Friday of each month, May through August. Admission to all library movies is free. Some refreshments are provided, and additional snacks can be purchased for a small cost. Those who come need to bring their own blanket and/or chairs.

The series is co-sponsored by Community Trust Bank and Desco Federal Credit Union.

Writers invited to submit work for anthology

PORTSMOUTH —Southern Ohio writers are invited to submit their work for possible publication in an anthology meant to capture the unique quality of the southern Ohio life.

Poetry, short fiction or nonfiction that demonstrates a connection in theme, setting or tone will be considered.

Submissions should be typed and include a brief statement of how the writing connects to the southern Ohio area and a short biographical note (name, address, phone number and e-mail.)

All contributors whose submissions are selected will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.

Proctorville slates dance

PROCTORVILLE — The Wilgus Street Park in the village of Proctorville will soar with band music Saturday night when the village resurrects a longtime favorite pastime when it hosts a street block dance.

“We haven’t done this for six years,” Mayor Rick Dunfee said. “This is just a get-together for anybody who wants to come. We did this three years in a row and people just enjoyed it.”

The dance will start at 7:30 p.m. and last for a couple of hours.

Right now Dunfee is looking for any non-profit group that would like to sell beverages at the dance. Any group interested should contact the mayor at the village hall.

In other village news the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce is purchasing new corporation signs for the main streets of Proctorville.

Also the village police are cracking down on motorists who don’t stop at the stop signs at the main street intersections.

“If they don’t stop at a stop sign, they will get a ticket,” Dunfee said.

Fine for that moving violation is $137.
