Lady Panthers’ Chapman fires perfect game in win

CHESAPEAKE — Allison Chapman isn’t perfect, but her pitching was.

Chapman threw a five-inning perfect game Wednesday as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers blanked the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 19-0.

Chapman struck out 10 and the Lady Panthers had 15 hits to back her pitching. Chapman was 3-5 with a double.

“When Ali is throwing well, she puts up some strikeouts. She’s always been a control pitcher and always around the plate,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

Casey Kirk singled, Sidney Boyle walked, Courtney Heffner singled and Myky Harmon singled home a run to start a 6-run first inning.

Taylor Riggs was safe on an error and Macy Allen doubled in a pair. Sarah Rice followed with a two-run single to cap the rally.

The Lady Panthers got five more runs in the second.

Sarah Mayo reached on an error, Boyle singled and Harmon walked to load the bases. Allen singled home two, Rice singled in a run and Chapman had a two-run single.

The lead went to 15-0 in the third inning.

Harmon was safe on an error, Courtney Baker walked, Jessica Adkins reached on an error and Ali Ransbottom singled in a run. Chapman was safe on an error as a run scored and Mayo reached on another error as two runs scored.

The final four runs scored in the fourth inning.

Heffner doubled, Harmon and Alyssa Arthur reached on errors, Ransbottom hit into a fielder’s choice, Chapman had a two-run single and an error scored the final run.

Allen and Rice were 2-2 while Kirk went 2-3 and Heffner 2-4.

Chesapeake (9-4, 4-0) visits Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph on Monday.
