CHESAPEAKE — One was enough.

The Chesapeake Panthers used a seven-run fourth inning to beat the Coal Grove Hornets 9-7 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“They had one big inning the whole game and that was enough. It was frustrating,” said Hornets’ coach Dean Mader. “But give them credit. They just tattooed the ball that inning.”

Coal Grove took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Oakie Haynes singled, stole second and third bases, and came home on a passed ball. Jake Murphy walked, stole second, moved up on a fielder’s choice and scored on a sacrifice fly by Frank Delawder.

Justin Hern then walked, stole second and came home on an error.

The lead went to 5-0 in the top of the third.

Murphy walked, stole second and scored on Delawder’s base hit. An outfield error allowed Delawder to reach third base and he scored on Hern’s hit.

Chesapeake got a run in the second and third innings, then scored seven times with two outs in the fourth. The Panthers scored on two walks, an error and five hits including four doubles.

Delawder doubled home runs the final two runs.
