Ohio State University football player P. Redgie Arden was found guilty Friday in Ironton Municipal Court of a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle without reasonable control -- second offense within one year.

The former Ironton football standout pleaded no contest to the June charges of DUI and having a standing motor vehicle in traffic.

He was sentenced to 30 days in the Lawrence County Jail, but 20 days of that is suspended,

and a $250 fine plus court costs, according to court records.

Scioto County Municipal Judge Richard Schisler heard the case because Ironton Municipal Judge O. Clark Collins Jr. removed himself earlier this year because his ties with OSU would have been a conflict of interest.

Arden, 21, was arrested June 1 after the Ironton Police Department found him slumped over the wheel of his white Lincoln in the intersection of Sixth Street and Park Avenue.

Patrolman Grover Carter and Sgt. Joe Ross reported that they found Arden disoriented and smelled alcohol inside the vehicle.

Arden refused field sobriety and a breathalyzer tests. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail and released on a $1,600 bail bond.

This was Arden's second alcohol-related offense. He pleaded guilty in municipal court to a DUI charge last March. He was sentenced to three days in jail and fined.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound sophomore, played tight end last year on the national champion Buckeyes team. He was expected to compete for playing time on the defensive line in the 2003 season. The OSU Web site said his participation this year was in question because of surgery on a shoulder, an injury suffered in spring practice.

Messages left with coach Jim Tressel's office, the athletic director and the Arden home in Ironton were not immediately returned.
