Two more Kentucky residents appeared in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Wednesday for their involvement in check forging.

Jerry Lanham, 55, of 1224 Prospect Ave., Worthington, Ky., pleaded guilty to two counts of fifth-degree forgery.

Judge Charles Cooper sentenced Lanham to four years community control sanctions and 90 days in the county jail for each count, to be served concurrently. Lanham was also ordered to pay a total of $1,026.03 in restitution.

Lanham was represented by attorney Scott Evans.

Scott Sanchez, 32, of 226 Iowa St., Ashland, Ky., was arraigned on one count of fifth-degree forgery. Sanchez pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Warren Morford.

Cooper set a $10,000 cash or surety bond and scheduled a pretrial for June 27.

In January, 11 Kentucky residents who had been investigated by the United States Secret Service were indicted for cashing counterfeit payroll checks in their own names at banks and grocery stores in Lawrence County.

Lanham is the third person to be sentenced on these charges.

Lesley Ann Church, 30, 7928 Paddle Creek Road, Catlettsburg, Ky., and Walter Warner, 41, of 911 Chestnut Drive, Ashland, Ky., previously pleaded guilty and were sentenced.

In other cases:

• Bobby Effingham, 40, of 403 Fourth St. E., South Point, pleaded guilty to third-degree failure to comply with the order and signal of a police officer.

Cooper sentenced Effingham to three years in prison with credit for time served and ordered him to pay court costs.

Effingham was represented by attorney Scott Evans.
