HAMILTON -- After looking back at Sunday's dismal performance in a 13-2 loss, the Ironton 10-year-old All-Stars must have been listening to a native New Yorker.

"Forget about it."

Bouncing back in solid fashion, Ironton collected eight hits to back the four-hit pitching of

Tyler Salyers in an 8-2 win over Bucyrus at the state tournament Monday.

"It was like night and day. We played like we did on Saturday," Ironton coach Jimmy Mahlmeister said of the opening day 4-3 win.

Salyers struck out five and walked four in going the distance. Tanner Riley went 2-for-4 with a double to lead seven different Ironton batters who got base hits.

"We couldn't ask any more of Tyler Salyers. We just wanted him to throw strikes and he did, and we fielded the ball," Mahlmeister said.

Ironton jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Salyers and Anthony Harper were safe on errors, and Riley singled to load the bases. An out later, Brian Warner and Aaron Allen each walked to force in runs.

Bucyrus got a run back in the second.

Skyler Tate was hit by a pitch but Caleb Miller hit into a force play. Brandon Robinson singled and a throwing error scored the run.

Ironton answered with two runs in the third inning.

Riley doubled to open the inning, Josh Murphy walked, and Warner singled home both Riley and courtesy runner J.J. Lewis.

The Ironton All-Stars then put the game away with four runs in the fourth.

Codey Jones singled to lead off the inning. Taylor Jenkins went to pinch-run and Salyers singled. The runners moved up on a passed ball an an out later an error allowed one run to score. Murphy doubled home two more runs and then Lewis, running for Murphy, scored on Allen's base hit.

Bucyrus got its final run in the fifth.

Caleb Caudill singled to start the inning, Austin Britton was safe on a fielder's choice, and Taylor Ellis and Tate both walked to force in the run.

"We hit the ball real well. It was real encouraging to score eight runs and we could have scored more if the ball bounces the right way for us," Mahlmeister said.

Ironton plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday against the Cambridge-Elyria East loser.
