James Rogers

James M. Rogers, 82 of Pedro, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Denton, Ky., native was born April 4, 1930, the son of the late Horton and Connie Cunningham Rogers. James is survived by his wife Carol Jean Malone Rogers whom he married Nov. 20, 1951.

James attended Decatur schools and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran where he served in the 3rd Infantry Division. He was retired as a grinder from the Dayton Malleable Iron Company after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Decatur Missionary Baptist Church. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amberlyn Rogers; three sisters Charlene Phillips, Edith Rowe, and Lexi Bellew and seven brothers, Harold “Doc” Rogers, Joe Rogers, Sherman Rogers, Lawrence Rogers, Curt Rogers, Hollie Rogers, and Raymond Rogers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Terry Evans of Pedro; a son and daughter-in-law, James M. “Rusty” Jr. and Teresa Rogers of Peebles; four grandchildren, Shane and Tamara Evans of Gretna, Va., Ty and Brittney Evans of Las Vegas, Nev., Kendall Rogers of San Jose, Calif., and Kristina Rogers of Peebles; a great granddaughter, Isabella Evans also of Gretna, Va.; a sister, Katherine Hutchinson of Ironton and a brother, Harold Franklin Rogers of Columbus.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Decatur Missionary Baptist Church, Pedro, with Bro. Ed Cox, the Rev. Darrell Fowler, and Pastor Brian Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Julia Butcher

Julia A. Butcher, 69, of South Point, died Sunday, July 08, 2012, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. Arrangements are pending at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home.

 

Ellen McKnight

Ellen Elizabeth Kretzer McKnight, 85, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Community Hospice Care Center. She was the wife of Thomas McKnight Jr., who survives. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Westwood Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Phillip Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visiation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Preston Family Funeral Home and an hour prior to the funeral Wednesday at the church.
