Kenneth Sites

Kenneth Augustus Sites Sr., 87, of Coal Grove, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Coal Grove native was born Feb. 15, 1925, the son of the late Asa D. and Mary Smith Sites of Coal Grove.

Kenneth was an honorary graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School in 2002. He was a WWII veteran where he served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He retired from the Sement Solvey where he worked for 31 years. He was also a police officer for the Coal Grove Police Department from 1965 to 1973. He had a passion to repair and sell lawn mowers.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Sites and Marie Hicks, and two brothers; Joe Sites and Bob Sites.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Barbara J. Gettys Sites, whom he married March 1, 1960, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa (Greg) Thompson of Ironton, Risa Sites of Ironton, and Belinda (John) Stigler of Ironton; three sons, Kenny (Rhonda) Sites of Kitts Hill, , Chad (Kim) Sites of Ironton, , and Scott (Amber) Sites of Kitts Hill; two brothers, Paul Sites of North Carolina and Asa (Junior) Sites Jr. of South Point; two sisters, Betty Kazenski of Ironton, , and Mary Lou Sites of Ironton. He had 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Pastor Max Donahue officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. the day of the service. Military graveside rites will be provided by VFW Post 8850. Thomas Hardy

Thomas Dempsey Hardy, 84, of Ironton, passed Thursday, July 26, 2012, in Ironton. The New Boston native was born Jan. 6, 1928, the son of the late James and Freda Jenkins Hardy.

Mr. Hardy attended Ironton and Symmes Valley schools and was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Navy World War II veteran. He retired in 1993 after working 45 years as an electrician for Wayne Pump Company, Dow Chemical, National Mines and Mansbach Metal.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda McComas and Lorene Massie; three brothers, Raymond Shears, Carlin Shears and Earl Shears and a son-in-law, Jerry Clayton.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Butler Hardy, whom he married Aug. 6, 1950; two daughters, Deborah Clayton and Lucinda and George McCalvin both of Ironton; three grandchildren, Thomas McCalvin, Sissy and Danny Wheeler, and Shelly Clayton; a great grandchild, Carleigh Dawn and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with Pastor Steve Harvey officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8850. Pallbearers will be Larry Massie, Tommy McCalvin, Danny Wheeler, James Kelly, Jim Sites, and Justin Shears. Ernestine Cochran

Ernestine E. Cochran, 86, of South Point, died Tuesday July 24, 2012, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Betty Henson

Betty Jane Bishop Henson, 91, of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday July 26, 2012, at Grayson Caring Hands. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor John Lowe. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Visitation is 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
