A half decade of serving voters

Blanche Wilds said she works at the polls whenever she receives a call asking her to do so.

She's apparently received those calls more than fifty times.

"I got a plaque a while back that said I've been working here for 50 years," she said. "I stopped counting after that."

Wilds, 91, has been a mainstay at St. Lawrence Elementary's polling place, and her experience has earned her respect from co-workers.

"She keeps us all straight," George Kelley, a 2-year poll worker said.

Before handing her grandson a ballot, Wilds emphasized the importance of voting.

"I tell you what, we'd have an awful country if nobody voted," she said.

"If you don't vote, you have no right to complain," Kelley said. "If you vote, you can complain all you want."
