Youth orchestra rehearsals begin

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Tri State Youth Orchestra begins its 15th year with rehearsals starting on Thursday, Aug. 23 in the basement of ARTS.

The orchestra rehearses from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Thursday night and has two concerts before auditions for the full orchestra vacancies. The string section will be performing at the Tri-State fine arts youth festival sponsored by ARTS and Pullman Plaza Nov. 2 and 3.

Mountwest to host grand opening Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Mountwest Community & Technical College is hosting an open house of their new campus Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A special ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. with the grand opening celebration to follow. The celebration is sponsored by Cabell Huntington Hospital and is a free event open to the community that will include building tours of the new campus, refreshments, vendor booths, and games/inflatables for children.

Classrooms and laboratories incorporate the latest technology for hands-on, practical learning in an adult-oriented environment.

The new campus is located atop Fifth Street hill in Huntington at 2205 Fifth Street Road. This is a great opportunity to be a part of this exciting, new achievement for Mountwest Community & Technical College.

 

Local entrepreneur receives honor
