The one-year contract will be retroactive to the start of the school year. The old contract expired July 31. The two sides have been working on a new contract since June.

"Due to the short notice, I thought this was a really good turnout," IEA President Mary Ann Philabaun said.

Negotiators for the two sides met Wednesday and hammered out final details of the pact. Philabaun said she and others spent Wednesday evening and Thursday morning calling members and advising them of the meeting to take a vote.

"I'm glad its over. There's always a worry when you start a school year without a contract," Philabaun said.

The pact now goes to the full school board for ratification. Details will be released after the school board gives its approval. Teresa Moore/The Ironton Tribune
