Dunn not guilty

ALLIANCE (AP) — A magistrate in northeast Ohio has found Ohio State running back Bri’onte Dunn not guilty of a disorderly conduct charge.

The Canton Repository reports Municipal Court Magistrate Jean Madden acquitted the 19-year-old Dunn after a bench trial Friday. Dunn and three other witnesses testified.

The minor misdemeanor charge stems from a traffic stop in late July, when police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car Dunn was driving. A police report says he nearly hit a patrol car. Dunn pleaded innocent in early August.

Dunn is an incoming freshman who was a star back at Canton’s GlenOak High School.

 

 

Bengals cut injured

wide receiver Shipley

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals have waived receiver Jordan Shipley, who was limited in training camp while he recovered from reconstructive knee surgery.

Shipley was Cincinnati’s starting slot receiver before he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Sept. 18. He wasn’t cleared to practice fully until July 30. A third-round pick in 2010, he had one catch for 4 yards in the Bengals’ two preseason games.

The Bengals also waived kicker Thomas Weber on Friday. Kicker Mike Nugent signed a one-year tender offer as the team’s franchise player in April. He was bothered by a sore hamstring at the start of training camp, giving Weber a chance to kick.

 

 

Special ND uniforms

have fans upset

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame fans going to see the football team at Soldier Field in Chicago when the Fighting Irish play Miami in October may not recognize the home team.

The Irish will wear a special uniform for the neutral-site home game. The jerseys have metallic numbers that say IRISH on the front. The gold pants have a blue stripe on the left side with a leprechaun on it. The helmet is gold on the top and the right side and blue on the left with a leprechaun.

The South Bend Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/NrIUDz ) the unveiling of the uniforms Thursday led to extreme reactions on Twitter and fan message boards. One person posted: “WE ARE! MD!” referring to the uniforms the Terrapins wore last year patterned after that state’s flag.

 

 

Ex-LSU star Mathieu

enters drug rehab

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A New Orleans television station is reporting that former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu has entered a drug rehabilitation program in Houston since being dismissed from the Tigers.

Fox 8 is reporting that Mathieu’s adoptive father, Tryone Mathieu, says that the 20-year-old star cornerback and punt returner known as the “Honey Badger” has been at the Right Step recovery center and is being counseled by former NBA player John Lucas.

Tyrone Mathieu says his son is committed to restoring his health and won’t play football until he is confident that his rehab is complete. That may rule out the possibility of Mathieu transferring to a school at the FCS level and playing this season, after which he would be eligible for the NFL draft.

No one from Mathieu’s family appeared on camera in the report.
