HARTFORD, Conn. --

The man charged with sexually assaulting the sister of former New York Knicks forward Marcus Camby during a hostage standoff was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Troy D. Crooms, 29, was sentenced Tuesday after accepting a plea deal on charges of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree burglary and violating probation.

Crooms was accused of holding Camby’s sister at knifepoint during an eight-hour standoff at the home of Camby’s mother in South Windsor on April 23.

The sister told police that she had been dating Crooms, and had argued with him hours before the standoff.

Camby’s mother and another sister were in the house when the standoff began, but were able to escape.

Judge Elliot Solomon said he had reservations about the plea bargain, but accepted it after Camby’s sister told Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas Garcia that she wanted to put the ordeal behind her. The Associated Press
