Alleged bank robber Kenneth L. Musick will appear for a preliminary hearing Thursday.

According to county Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., the court levied a $100,000 cash bond against Musick, who is charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. Musick appeared in Ironton Municipal Court yesterday to set the date for a preliminary hearing. Ironton attorney Mark McCown was appointed his lawyer.

The Wheelersburg man was arrested by Ironton police after the department received a robbery alarm Friday afternoon from Lincoln Savings and Loan Bank, located at 420 Park Ave.

Capt. Chris Bowman, a detective with IPD said that Musick approached the row of tellers and stated he had a bomb, showing the tellers a metal box. He then handed a teller a small, black duffel bag and told her to fill it with cash. After the teller gave him the money he left the bank. Musick was dressed in brown coveralls and had attempted to disguise himself with dark brown makeup.

Musick dropped the box when police arrived. Bowman said the 12-inch- by-12-inch, gray, metal box Musick had alleged was a bomb contained electrical wires running into a mass of gray putty.

On top of the putty, Musick had taped 4 AA batteries. He also claimed a television remote control was the detonation device. After he was arrested, he told police the device was not a bomb.

Bowman said the case remains under investigation.

Musick has a prior criminal record. According to information from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, Musick was sent to prison on Dec. 31, 1991 for a robbery in Scioto County. Musick was sentenced to a minimum of five years in prison, but his sentence was suspended and he was released on April 26, 1993.
