SOUTH POINT — The Lawrence County Dog Pound will have an Adopt-A-Pet Day Friday at the South Point Petland. The point of the day is to encourage those who are perhaps looking for a pet or thinking about getting a pet to consider adopting that new family member from the pound.

“We’ll have some puppies and some older dogs, some kittens and some cats,” dog pound worker Kelli Fuhr said.

Petland Manager Teresa Williams said Petland and the dog pound used to have monthly adopt-a-pet events but stopped because the dog pound was short-staffed.

“We believe in doing anything to help the community and to help pets find new homes,” Williams said. “We love to do it.”

The hours are 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The cost to adopt a puppy 3 months and younger is $21 and a dog over 4 months of age is $31.

The cost of adopting a kitten is $10 and the price for a cat is $15. Fuhr said this includes tags and a certificate for free spaying or neutering.
