SPRING VALLEY, W.Va. – It’s a broken record, but Chesapeake Lady Panthers coach Chad Belville doesn’t mind listening to it every night.

Using the same formula, Chesapeake ran its record to 6-3 with a 53-40 win Thursday over the Raceland Lady Rams in the Spring Valley Holiday Classic.

"It’s been the same story for us the past few weeks. Our three seniors combined for 32 points, and our freshmen and sophomores gave us some incredible minutes," Belville said.

"Offensively we were a little out of sync. We weren’t making our little shots, but we played good defense. Our defensive pressure was outstanding, and it was like the other night. It didn’t matter who was on the floor."

Chesapeake’s senior trio played well. Emily Delimpo had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Erin Sutphin scored 10 points, and Sarah Harris had 10 points and six rebounds.

Lisa Perry added seven points, 11 assists, and six steals while running the offense. Chesapeake had just seven turnovers.

"We took care of the ball really well tonight," Belville said.

Rice and Delimpo scored six points each the first quarter as the Lady Panthers went in front 18-12.

"Raceland had a girl 6-foot tall and another 5-11 and 5-10 and our tallest girl is 5-10, but Rice and Delimpo stepped up," Belville said.

Perry scored five of her points the second quarter as Chesapeake used its press to convert turnovers into easy baskets and went up 32-23 at the break.

Raceland cut a 12-point deficit to just six points the third quarter, but Harris scored six points and Chesapeake moved back in front 42-31.

"We had four freshmen and one senior (Harris) on the floor and extended the lead from six to 12. They did a great job," Belville said.

Sutphin got seven points the fourth quarter to put the nail in the Rams coffin.

"Erin just took over the game for us at the end," Belville said.

Allison Sargent scored 11 points to lead Raceland.

Chesapeake plays Tolsia, W.Va., at 7 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.
