All the fears Chesapeake coach Chad Belville were put to rest quickly as the Lady Panthers routed Buffalo of Putnam 54-32 in the Spring Valley Holiday Classic.

"We were worried about coming out sluggish after (Christmas), so that was a big boost to us," Belville said. "When you spend the day eating Christmas dinner and sitting around and taking in the day, you might not be focused. But that wasn’t the case with us."

Erin Sutphin pumped in 19 points while Emily Delimpo had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers, now 5-3. Sutphin also had four assists and three steals.

The duo had 23 of Chesapeake’s 31 points the first half.

Jennifer Rice added seven rebounds for Chesapeake and Lisa Perry had nine assists and three steals.

Sutphin got six points the first quarter and Delimpo had six points as well to give Chesapeake a 12-4 lead.

"Erin got us off to a quick start and they were all on the fast break," Chesapeake coach Chad Belville said.

Sutphin had six more the second quarter as Chesapeake outscored Buffalo Putnam 19-8 to go up 31-11 at the half.

"Our seniors did a nice job again. Erin got us off to a fast start the first quarter Erin and Emily dominated the first half. They got us going and everyone else followed their lead," Belville said.

"Defensively we got in the passing lanes and Perry did a good job pushing the ball up the floor. We played 11 girls and no matter who we put on the floor, we never lost our defensive intensity."

The Lady Panthers extended the lead to 45-19 after three quarters and coasted to the win.

Chesapeake plays Raceland at 4 p.m. Thursday.
