Seven different players reached the scoring column and the Chesapeake Lady Panthers turned in a solid defensive effort as well by beating the Minford Lady Falcons 52-40 Thursday.

Post players Emily Delimpo and Jennifer Rice combined for 23 points and 22 rebounds as Chesapeake improved to 4-2. Delimpo had 12 points and 17 rebounds while Rice had 11 points and five boards.

Lisa Perry added 10 points, 10 assists, and three steals. Erin Sutphin had a solid all-around game as well with eight pints, four rebounds, and three assists.

"It seemed every quarter we had a different pair step up," Belville said.

"Our post players (Delimpo and Rice) got us off to a nice start, and then Sutphin and Perry and (Megan) Johnson picked up the slack offensively when Delimpo and Rice got in foul trouble. All the girls did a nice job contributing."

Delimpo scored eight points and Rice five the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 16-15 lead. Sutphin scored her points over the next two quarters as the Lady Panthers moved in front 29-20 at the half before Minford closed to within 39-33 after the third quarter.

Minford cut the Chesapeake lead from as many as 12 points the third quarter to six including the six-point spread at the end of the quarter.

But the Lady Panthers converted 6-of-8 from the line the fourth quarter to seal the win.

"It wasn’t a spectacular win, but we did what we needed in order to win," Belville said. "We hit our foul shots and made a conscious effort to step up defensively."

Mandy Miller had 11 points and Andrea King 10 to pace Minford.

Chesapeake plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill.
