Poage Landing Days to showcase heritage

 

ASHLAND, Ky. — The 17th annual Poage Landing Days is set for Sept. 14-16 in downtown Ashland, Ky.

Voted one of the “Top 25” downtown festivals in Kentucky by the Kentucky Main Street Program, the weekend event is meant to celebrate the city’s heritage. Most of the events are free. Activities include an antique car show, tractor show, motorcycle show, the Poage Landing Days Beauty Pageant, an arts & crafts tent and live entertainment.

The 17th annual Ed Haley Old Time Fiddle Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 15.  This will include a demonstration of  “old time” Appalachian  fiddle techniques at 10 a.m.  The contest will start at 12:30 p.m. with categories for teens, adults and seniors. Prizes include $500 for adult and senior winners, and the contest entry fee is $10 for adults and seniors and $5 for teens.

The annual 5K run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Runners start and finish at
Park Place, 1701 Central Ave. The entry fee is $20 adults and $10 age 17 and under
prior to Thursday, Sept. 13 and $25 adults and $15 age
17 and under on race day. The first 100 runners
who register will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt.
 Registration on race day will be in the lobby of
Park Place across from Boyd County Library, from 7 – 7:45 a.m.

Trophies are awarded to the overall top two male
and female participants, Medals are awarded to
the top three participants in each division (no
duplication of awards).

Awards will be presented
following the race in front of Park Place. If it rains, awards will be presented in the lobby
of Park Place. Refreshments will be available.

The
race is sponsored by the Ashland Area YMCA,
King’s Daughters Medical Center and Papa John’s
of Ashland.
